Membership at The Town Club

Sponsorship by a member and approval by the Board of Directors are required for membership at The Town Club. Inquiries are welcome for the following classes of single or joint memberships:

Class A

Anyone at least 40 years of age on the first calendar day of the calendar year may qualify for Class A membership.  A Class A member’s unmarried immediate family members under 25 years of age are entitled to the privileges of the Club.  Only Class A members in good standing at the time of mailing notice of any meeting are entitled to vote at any meeting of the Club.  A vote may be cast in person or by written proxy filed with the secretary of the Club before the meeting.  A joint membership has one vote.

In the event of the liquidation of the club, Class A members in good standing, who have been Class A members for five years or more before commencement of liquidation, shall share equally in the net assets of the Club.  A joint membership has one share in the event of liquidation of the Club.  No amendment or modification of these by-laws in an way affecting the right of such Class A members to share in the assets of the Club upon liquidation shall be effective unless approved by the affirmative vote of not less than two-thirds of the Class A members who, at the time of the amendment or modification, would be entitled to share in the assets of the Club upon liquidation.

Class B

Anyone at least 30 years of age and less than 40 years of age on the first day of the calendar year may qualify for Class B membership.  A Class B member’s unmarried immediate family members under 25 years of age are entitled to the privileges of the Club.  Class B membership terminates at the end of the calendar year the Class B attains age 40.  The Class B becomes eligible for acceptance as a Class A upon a vote of the Board of Directors as required for new members.

Class C (Junior)

Anyone at least 16 years of age and less than 30 years of age may qualify for Class C membership.  A Class C member’s unmarried immediate family members are entitled to the privileges of the Club.  Class C membership terminates at age 30, and the Class C becomes eligible for acceptance as a Class B upon a vote of the Board of Directors as required for new members.

Class D (Non-Resident)

Members who relocate themselves and members of their household outside of The Town Club area, intending to remain for a period of one year or more, and who will not, nor will members of their household, use the Club facilities except during short visits to Milwaukee, may qualify for Class D membership if they, including both joint members, (i) are not domiciled within fifty miles of the Club, (ii) do not maintain a principal place of business in Milwaukee or a contiguous county and (iii) are not regularly employed in Milwaukee or a contiguous county. These requirements may be altered or waived by the Board from time to time in its discretion.

A Class D member ceases to be qualified for that class if they fail to meet the requirement of sub clause (i) for more than six months, or fails to meet the requirements of subclauses (ii) or (iii) stated herein.

A Class D member who ceases to be qualified for such class will, upon written request, be granted membership in the class for which they are eligible upon qualifying by payment of initiation fee, provided they were a member in good standing when transferred to Class D.

A Class D member’s unmarried immediate family members under 25 years of age, who reside with the member, are entitled to the privileges of the Club.

If a Class D member, or any member of their household, makes use of the Club more than three days (for activities other than general dining) in any calendar month, such member will be charged dues for that month in the applicable class for which they would be responsible if a resident member.

Class E (Ministers)

Ordained ministers who perform ministerial services and who are domiciled within 50 miles from the Club, may qualify for Class E membership.  A Class E member’s unmarried immediate family members under 25 years of age are entitled to the privileges of the Club.  If a Class E member stops performing ministerial services and accepts other employment, the Class E membership shall terminate.  Retiring from performing ministerial services without subsequent employment does not terminate Class E membership. Upon termination the former Class E members shall be eligible for acceptance to the appropriate membership classification for their age and status upon a vote of the Board of Directors as required for new members.

Class F

Anyone 70 years of age or older, who is and has been a Class A member for 25 years, may upon application, qualify for Class F membership upon a vote of the Board of Directors as required for new members.

Class G

An unmarried woman, who was a Class G member as of July 1, 2004 shall remain a Class G member.  A Class G member may at any time after July 1, 2004, upon application, become eligible for acceptance as a Class A member upon a vote of the Board of Directors as required for new members.  A Class G member’s unmarried immediate family members under 25 years of age are entitled to the privileges of the Club.

A Class G member whose membership terminates by marriage shall be eligible for acceptance to the appropriate membership classification for her current status upon a vote of the Board of Directors as required for new members.

Class H

Anyone at least 70 years of age, not currently a member, may qualify for Class H membership.  A Class H member’s spouse is entitled to the privileges of the Club under such membership.

Class I (Non-Resident)

Anyone outside of The Town Club area, intending to remain for a period of one year or more, and who will not, nor will members of their household, use the Club Facilities except during short visits to Milwaukee, may qualify for Class I membership, if they, including both joint members, (i) are not domiciled within fifty miles of the Club, (ii) do not maintain a principal place of business in Milwaukee or a contiguous country and (iii) are not regularly employed in the Milwaukee or a contiguous county. These requirements may be altered or waived by the Board from time to time in its discretion.

A Class I member ceases to be qualified for that class if they fail to meet the requirements of sub clause (i) for more than six months, or fails to meet the requirements of subclasses (ii) or (iii) stated herein.

A Class I member who ceases to be qualified for such classes, will, upon written request, be granted membership in the class for which they are eligible upon qualifying by payment of the difference between initiation fee paid at the time of becoming a Class I and the documented initiation fee for the respective Membership Class the Member qualified for at the time of applying for Class I, provided they are a member in good standing.

A Class I member’s unmarried immediate family members under the age of 25 years of age, who reside with the member, are entitled to the privileges of the Club.

If a Class I member, or any member of their household, makes use of the Club more than three days (for activities other than general dining) in any calendar month, such member will be charged dues for that month in the applicable class for which they would be responsible if a resident member.

Class T (Teenage Summer Tennis Membership)

Up to 10 children (1) who are over 14 years of age and have not graduated from high school, (2) who will participate in the Club’s high school tennis program, and (3) whose participation will not prevent another member’s child from participating in the Club’s high school tennis program, are eligible for Class T membership from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day of the year of application.  After Labor Day, Class T memberships terminate.  If eligible, Class T members may reapply in subsequent years.  Class T members shall not have the rights and privileges of other memberships, except as determined by the Board of Directors.  Sections 1.5, 1.12(a) and 6.2 do not apply to Class T memberships.  Applications for Class T memberships shall be recommended to the Membership Committee by the Tennis Committee Chairpersons in lieu of normal membership procedures.  No child of anyone who has been a member within the last five years is eligible for Class T membership.

Class P (Non-summer Paddle Tennis Membership)

Up to 20 persons who are at least 21 years of age are eligible for Class P membership.  A Class P membership year begins on Labor Day of one calendar year and ends on the following Memorial Day.  A Class P membership does require annual reapplication.  Class P membership cannot exceed 2 membership seasons.   Class P membership includes access to all Paddle Tennis Activities of the Club and Dining during the term of membership, but specifically excludes access to tennis and swimming, and excludes all access to the Club between Memorial Day and Labor Day.  The membership does carry a prorated food and beverage minimum requirement.  Persons who have been members of the Club in the past 5 years are not eligible for Class P membership. A Class P member’s spouse and immediate family members are entitled to the privileges of the Club under the terms of the membership.
